June Plot Post: Part Two
All right, ladies and gentlemen. Today marks the beginning of the second phase of this month's plot.
We're sure everyone remembers this post wherein the Queen wassecretly five years old butthurt about the nonexistence of her favorite pairings upset that more of the Gardens' lovely ladies were not forming relationships of the romantic persuasion. She did something in her anger, but what that something is has yet to be revealed.
However, the results of her actions have now started appearing in the Gardens in the form of individuals from the characters' memories. A nifty bulleted list for your convenience:
- The newly-appeared people are apparitions, not real, even though they may look and seem real. Putting psychological pressure on them or fighting back against the things they say will cause them to vanish in a puff of white smoke. They will, however, reappear a few hours later.
- The memory-phantoms are not exact duplicates of the individual(s) from your character's memories. Instead, they are twisted in a way that matches your character's worst beliefs or fears about that person; for example, one character might have a lover back home whom they are afraid is cheating on them, and so a phantom of that character's lover might appear, only twisted into a philandering flirt. That is, however, just an example; feel free to run with the characters and their fears and anxieties in whatever direction you like.
- As mentioned above, they are malicious in a way that varies from subtly nasty to actively trying to hurt your character or those close to her, depending on your preference. They do not, however, have any special powers or abilities that their "original" doesn't have.
- And since this is the Gardens, all the phantoms are female, regardless of the sex of the individuals they are based upon.
Like all the plots here at Queen of Hearts, this plot is optional to participate in. In order to allow those players who want their characters to avoid the plot to do so, we're keeping the phantoms to the outside edges of the Gardens, nearest to the wild places. If your character goes too far off the beaten path, she runs the risk of encountering one of the phantoms, whether her own or (with plotting between the players involved) another character's; however, characters are still able to go about their daily business in the main parts of the Gardens. We've designed it so that it is up to each player to interpret what their character might encounter, if they encounter anything at all, and how much it affects them.
Also, for the time being — between now and June 15th — characters are unable to enter the wild places for any reason. An invisible and intangible barrier of magical force will repel them if they try. Neither the Queen nor any of the incarnae seem willing to explain why they can't get through — or anything else that's going on, for that matter.
Additionally, we'd like to make a request that if you are going to make a plot post of your own to please try to tag at least one of someone else's. This isn't a rule — we're not going to get mad at you if you don't — but it is an attempt to facilitate the plot and ensure that no one gets left out.
The third and final phase of the plot will be revealed on the 15th.
If you have questions or comments, don't hesitate to ask! We'll answer them as best we can.
eta; An additional reminder: there are two days left in the activity check, so if you haven't yet gotten your characters in, please do so!
