august plot: part three

As the dreams continue, characters may find that they are interwoven with strange symbols and creatures — these are detailed somewhat in the mass dream log. Additionally, the dreams grow darker and more threatening, and the characters may be attacked by the creatures that appear in their dreams, only to wake up with very real scratches and bruises. Nothing fatal or serious, but enough to make it clear that the dreams are not simply mere visions.

Over the next couple of days, characters will notice the previously innocuous flowers that have begun to grow in the Gardens becoming larger and more prominent. In fact, they're just about everywhere — growing twined along the Vine, sneaking into characters' houses, perhaps even climbing onto their beds when they sleep, and the fragrance they emit is stronger than it was before. It will now be patently obvious to most characters that these are not ordinary flowers.

The flowers are in fact an invasive species from outside the Gardens, and their existence will begin to cause a few problems outside of the characters' vivid and bizarre dreams. Over the next day or so, characters may begin to notice cracks in the walls and windows of their homes, cracks in the soil of the Gardens, and even, improbably, in midair; nothing can be seen through these cracks except a black void, and they only grow larger as time passes. At this point it may become clear that there is something dangerous occurring, and astute characters may make a connection between the sudden aggressive growth of the flowers and the appearance of these ominous cracks in the Gardens.

The only way to stop the cracks from growing any larger and potentially doing serious — or even fatal — damage to the world is to destroy the flowers, and the only way to permanently destroy the flowers, like killing certain types of weeds, is to pull them out by the roots. The flowers have their own natural manner of resistance to such treatment — up close, the scent they emanate can be overwhelming, dizzying, and concentrating through it takes some effort. (Characters who don't need to breathe obviously have an advantage here.) Additionally, the flowers' roots are tough and deep. However, the more flowers the characters destroy, the more they will notice the cracks getting smaller, until they finally vanish when the characters have killed all the flowers.

The incarnae and the Queen, perhaps somewhat curiously, have remained silent this entire time, leaving the characters to figure out what to do themselves. (OOCly, this is an encouragement to have your characters put their heads together to solve the problem, so feel free to have them do so without worrying about stepping on modly toes.)

This month's plot will wrap on Thursday the 18th, and characters who helped destroy the flowers will receive a reward from the High Priestess: a talisman that will assure them pleasant and peaceful dreams for the next month.

On an unrelated note, the Queen of Hearts bimonthly HMD post will be posted later today, so if you'd like to participate, don't forget to keep an eye out for it.

OKAY GUYS. Lithuania is going to be encouraging these plants (once it becomes known what they are doing). After all, why work to safe your prison when it's crumbling around you? She will be pointing this out on the vine at some point, but even if no one agrees to help her, she will be using the robots to transplant them and keeping as many as she can safe on her own.

Basically she is trying to either break out or force the incarnae to act. Anyone want to do something with this?

You know, this is actually an interesting quandary for Signum. On the one hand, she still really wants to break out of here. On the other hand she knows enough about ~~DIMENSIONS~~ to know that holes in nothing (with or without monsters in them) are a Bad Thing and should be prevented.

If you need someone to doubtfully support this plot and maybe turn against it at the end, I can join in.

Actually do you or WP's runner mind if I just jump into that thread? Signum won't just barge in on a duel unless asked, but she will want to observe.
